9th Chemnitz Reading Advent in the Chemnitz City Library
Reading highlight: Jörg Schüttauf at the TIETZ on 10 December 2015
On four afternoons in December, personalities from Chemnitz will read Christmas texts in the Chemnitz City Library and talk to presenter Dorothee Lücke. The readings take place on Thursdays at 5 pm in the TIETZ, in the Culture & Countries section of the library. Admission to four of the readings is free. The reading highlight with former crime scene commissioner Jörg Schüttauf on 10 December 2015 at 7 pm costs 12.00 euros (concessions 8.00 euros). Tickets can be reserved by telephone on 0371 488-4222.
The highlight of the Reading Advent is an event with a prominent artist every year. This year, ex-Tatort detective Jörg Schüttauf will be a guest at the TIETZ. The well-known actor will read "The Journey to Petushki", a poem by Venedikt Yerofeyev. The ludicrous story of a boozy train journey is already one of the modern classics of Russian literature. With his suitcase full of booze clutched tightly to his heart, Venedikt Venicka from Moscow boards the suburban train to Petushki. There he wants to visit his red-haired lover and their son. However, the journey goes off the rails and turns into one big bender. From station to station and from bottle to bottle, Venedikt's monologues and his exchange of ideas with his travelling companions become more absurd.
In the past, Otto Mellies, Dieter Bellmann, Sabine Ebert, Gisela May, Carmen Rohrbach, Gojko Mitić, Thomas Bille and Annekathrin Bürger have performed in front of an enthusiastic audience at the Reading Advent.
Chemnitz City Library and the Evangelical Forum have been jointly organising the Reading Advent series for nine years.
