8th Literature Days Leselust start
Svetlana Lavochkina and Denis Scheck will be among the guests at the opening event
The 8th Leselust Literature Days begin in Chemnitz on Friday, 22 April. In the first week, Svetlana Lavochkina, Emilia Schmechowski, Denis Scheck, Rayk Wieland and Clemens Meyer will be guests at the TIETZ.
The Ukrainian author Svetlana Lavochkina, who lives in Leipzig, will be a guest at the TIETZ with her latest novel "The Red Duchess" at the opening on Friday from 7 pm. Svetlana Lavochkina writes a grotesque parable about megalomania and contempt for humanity, an eloquent and sensual portrait of Ukraine at the time of the Red Terror. She will be assisted by her translator Diana Feuerbach. The event will be moderated by Bettina Baltschev.
On Saturday, 23 April, UNESCO World Book Day, the TIETZ will become an open reading stage from 4 pm. Under the motto "Read & let read for everyone", all Chemnitz residents are invited to recite their own or other people's texts.
On Monday 25 April at 7 pm, Emilia Schmechowski will talk about her book "Return to Poland". In it, she describes a divided society. Where is such a torn country heading? Emilia Schmechowski, born in Poland in 1983, fled with her family to West Berlin in 1988. She shows our neighbouring country, the home of her childhood. She finds the causes of the division. Her assessment is sobering.
On Tuesday 26 April at 7 pm, the literary critic and presenter of the ARD television programme "Druckfrisch", Denis Scheck, will present his book "Der undogmatische Hund" at the TIETZ. It is a love story between a woman, a man and a Jack Russell. He tells the story of a wonderful ménage-à-trois in a highly amusing and original way and introduces us to the most famous dogs in world literature.
On Wednesday, 27 April, from 7 pm at the TIETZ, author and satirist Rayk Wieland will read from his hilarious grotesque "Third Degree Insult". A man is challenged to a duel - and what sounds like a story from the last century is set in the present, in the middle of today's Berlin. Rayk Wieland's novel is bursting with fabulous humour and absurd subtlety.
On Saturday, 30 April, the literary show Turboprop returns to the TIETZ with Messrs Graebel and Nießen. As always, they will be bringing along a wonderful literary guest, lots of books, prizes, puzzles, films, trash and, of course, pastries in the form of a decent cake.
