70 years of marriage - Irmgard and Horst Lehmann
Congratulations on your special wedding anniversary on 3 October 2013
On Thursday, 3 October 2013, Irmgard and Horst Lehmann from Chemnitz celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary, their so-called "marriage of grace". The City of Chemnitz will also be among the well-wishers at the couple's home in the assisted living facility of the Arbeiterwohlfahrt, Max-Saupe-Straße 43 in 09131 Chemnitz: Andreas Liese from the Mayor's Office will present the couple with congratulations from the City of Chemnitz at 10 a.m. on 3 October.
Horst Lehmann was granted ten days' furlough in 1943 for his marriage to his bride Irmgard. The groom, who was born in Chemnitz, experienced the Second World War as a front-line soldier from 1939 to 1945. He first saw his son, who was born in November 1944, at the age of four when he returned home from Russian captivity in May 1949.
Together, the family moved from Ullersdorf (Radeberg), Irmgard Lehmann's birthplace, to Chemnitz, where vocational school teachers were urgently needed. Horst Lehmann, a trained toolmaker, didn't think twice and found the job of a lifetime: He worked as a teacher until the age of 67.
The birth of their daughter in 1955 made the family's happiness complete. Irmgard Lehmann worked in her trained profession as a shop assistant and later as an office worker until the age of 63.
However, they both had different plans for their well-earned retirement: Health problems caused Irmgard Lehmann in particular a great deal of difficulty and led to the couple's decision to move into an assisted living facility. Neither of them has regretted this decision. With the support of the care service, they have organised their daily lives well, enjoy going for a walk in the surrounding area or enjoying the balcony of their two-room flat.
The couple are particularly happy about their offspring. They take an active interest in the lives of their three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and very much hope that they will all be able to attend the big family party in Augustusburg on Saturday.
