70 years of marriage - Irma and Werner Hofmann
Congratulations on the special anniversary of the "marriage of grace" on Monday, 15 April 2013
The couple will be celebrating this special day at home and are already looking forward to the well-wishers who are expected to celebrate. Things will get really exciting again at the weekend: the two sons and their families, which now includes four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, are expected to attend the family celebration. By then, Irma Hofmann wants to be really fit again and able to get out of bed. Following a serious operation, she is currently on the road to recovery with the help of the outpatient nursing service and the loving support of her daughter-in-law.
Irma and Werner Hofmann's wishes are to stay healthy, to continue to master everyday life together with a great sense of humour and to be able to live in their own four walls for as long as possible. They have experienced and been through a lot together, and that brings them closer together. Just four days after their wedding in April 1943, the young husband was called up for military service. Fortunately, he was able to return home from captivity in November 1946. After training in the commercial sector, Werner Hofmann worked in administration for many years and spent 32 years as a city councillor in Chemnitz, including a stint as deputy district mayor. However, the Peace Council, of which he was a long-standing member, was particularly close to his heart. He still maintains friendships from this time, including with a like-minded person from Switzerland for 63 years.
