"60plus flat share" now also in Chemnitz

Chemnitz Social Welfare Office and WCW invite you to an open day at the Keplerstraße 1 residential home - Date: Monday, 11 March, 9:30 am to 4 pm

Social contacts are an important part of our lives, because nobody wants to live completely isolated in the long term, and so a senior citizens' flat share can be a nice and enriching alternative for older age groups, for example. The City of Chemnitz Social Services Department has taken up the topic and is inviting interested citizens to an open day in a future "60plus flat share" organised jointly with Wohnungsbaugenossenschaft Chemnitz West eG (WCW): The date is Monday, 11 March 2013 from 9:30 am to 4 pm at Keplerstraße 1 in 09117 Chemnitz.

Representatives of the media are cordially invited to attend.

As the need for a shared flat for senior citizens is increasingly being identified in the context of housing counselling for senior citizens at the City of Chemnitz Social Welfare Office, the Department for Senior Citizens' and Disability Assistance, Local Care Authority supports courageous initiatives that take up this challenge and, together with WCW, is now inviting people to this first jointly prepared "Shared flat taster day". Interested parties have the opportunity to view the living spaces, which are suitable for a 3-person shared flat, on 11 March between 9.30 am and 4 pm. Like-minded people will also be able to talk to each other on site at 1 pm and find out more about senior living in general. In addition to contact persons from Wohnungsbaugenossenschaft Chemnitz West eG, a contact person from the social services department will also be on hand to answer questions.

According to a survey (Forsa), 18 per cent of people over the age of 60 can imagine living in a shared flat. Many ageing people do not want to live alone, but want to enjoy the benefits of communal living. However, the search for suitable flatmates and suitable living space is often difficult, which is why the demand for small individual residential groups is increasing. According to the social welfare office, the living space should also differ from that of a classic student flat share. The aspect of communal living and the desire for privacy was taken into account by WCW with the new 3-person shared flat: comfortable living space suitable for shared flats was renovated, which guarantees each resident their own room and a separate bathroom area - all in an attractive building that was designed to be barrier-free and is located in an area that is senior-friendly and has good infrastructure.
