47 Chemnitz projects for democracy and tolerance will receive a total of 170,000 euros in 2014 from the city and federal government

Information from the Coordination Centre on the Local Action Plan for Democracy, Tolerance and a Cosmopolitan Chemnitz (LAP)

This year, a total of 47 Chemnitz projects will receive financial start-up aid and support from the Local Action Plan for Democracy, Tolerance and a Cosmopolitan Chemnitz (LAP) and from the federal programme "Promoting Tolerance - Strengthening Competence". Municipal funds totalling 80,000 euros will be awarded to 41 project organisers; a total of 59 interested parties applied. Due to the excellent quality of the applications submitted, the funding was already fully utilised in the first round of applications, explains Ines Vorsatz, LAP Coordinator at the City of Chemnitz.

A total of 19 applications were submitted for participation in the federal programme "Promoting Tolerance - Strengthening Competence" in Chemnitz in 2014, with six projects receiving funding totalling 90,000 euros for the implementation of individual projects. Ines Vorsatz: "One of the special and also funded projects in 2014 is the concert to mark the opening of the Intercultural Weeks on 27 September 2014 in Chemnitz. The concert is part of the 'Show your face against right-wing violence' campaign - the project organiser is and remains the Chemnitz Workers' Welfare Association. I am delighted that this important campaign is being supported by the concert and performances by CAPTAIN CAPA, MEGA! MEGA! and STILL TREES. Anyone who wants to take part in 'Show your face against right-wing violence' with their own photo and make their own personal statement in public is still very welcome to take part in the campaign!"
