3rd Chemnitz allotment garden competition is organised
Winner takes part in the national competition in 2025
The city of Chemnitz is organising the 3rd Chemnitz allotment garden competition together with the Chemnitz federation of allotment gardeners and the Chemnitz/Land federation of allotment gardeners. The motto is "Allotment gardens - for a good climate in our city". It is aimed at all allotment garden associations in the city of Chemnitz who would like to publicise their achievements and present them to a jury of experts.
The deadline for submitting the complete entry documents to one of the two Chemnitz allotment garden associations is 15 April 2023. The winner will take part in the state competition in 2025 in order to qualify for the national competition in 2026. The two Chemnitz allotment garden federations, the Stadtverband Chemnitz der Kleingärtner e. V. (Augustusburger Straße 189 in 09127 Chemnitz) and the Verband der Kleingärtner Chemnitz / Land e. V. (Werner-Seelenbinder e. V.) are organising the competition. V. (Werner-Seelenbinder-Straße 11 in 09120 Chemnitz) offer support in filling in the application forms and accept the participation documents.
This competition is intended to provide an additional incentive for the innovative and sustainable development of the Chemnitz allotment garden sites. Furthermore, the voluntary commitment of the allotment gardeners and their organisations, who are committed to a sustainable allotment garden system as part of the green and open space system of the city and its people, is to be honoured.
At the same time, the competition, for which Lord Mayor Sven Schulze has taken over the patronage, draws attention to the positive effects of allotment gardening on the urban climate, urban nature, biodiversity and quality of life in the city's neighbourhoods and residential areas. The amendment to § 1 para. 6 of the Federal Nature Conservation Act (BNatSchG) on 1 March 2022 makes it clear that allotment gardens combine the interests of environmental protection, nature conservation and health protection as well as environmental justice, integration and education like hardly any other green space use. In the future, the climate-improving effects and the ecological importance of allotment gardens and allotment garden sites in the city of Chemnitz should also receive even greater attention and appreciation. Allotment gardens and allotment garden sites are places of diversity, sustainability and the economical, conscious use of resources.
