33 projects for democracy and tolerance are supported
City of Chemnitz, federal and state governments provide a total of 290,000 euros
33 Chemnitz projects to promote democracy and cosmopolitanism will receive funding this year. A total of 290.000 euros are being invested in the promotion of democracy in Chemnitz by the City of Chemnitz, Local Action Plan for Democracy, Tolerance and a Cosmopolitan Chemnitz (LAP), together with the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (BMFSFJ) and the Free State of Saxony, Saxon State Ministry of the Interior/Land Prevention Council (SMI/LPR).
Chemnitz has a strong civil society that is committed to a city of democracy and openness to the world. A total of 52 applications were submitted for democracy promotion. Of these, 33 projects received a grant.
- The Youth Forum, the public relations and networking work of the external coordination centre of the Partnership for Democracy at the Network for Cultural and Youth Work, will receive the highest grant of 95,000 euros.
- The Freunde der Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz e. V. (Friends of the Chemnitz Art Collections) will be supported with 20,000 euros to revitalise the Open Space.
- The Bürgerstiftung für Chemnitz/Aktion C will receive 10,800 euros for the development of peace messages with schoolchildren. The peace messages will adorn the town hall and the Roter Turm gallery for Chemnitz Peace Day 2024.
- Arthur e.V. is being supported with 17,370 euros to reduce prejudice among children and young people.
- In the area of the LAP's municipal micro-project fund, the sponsors of Stadtbibliothek e. V. are tackling the topics of "Bullying in schools" and "Tolerance and friendship" and will be working on these in eight Chemnitz schools.
- Both the Intercultural Week and the already realised oriental festival "Schalom Habibi" are partly co-financed by the LAP.
- The Chemnitz Synagogue will not be available for tours from July. The LAP supports the Chemnitz Jewish Community in providing teaching materials for replacement tours for school classes, for example of the Jewish cemetery.
The diversity of civil society is also reflected in the funded projects. In addition to various educational programmes, workshops, lectures, readings and exhibitions, this year the Local Action Plan for Democracy, Tolerance and a Cosmopolitan Chemnitz is once again funding simulation games.
