30 projects for democracy and tolerance are supported
City of Chemnitz, federal and state governments provide a total of 308,000 euros
30 Chemnitz projects to promote democracy and cosmopolitanism will receive funding this year. A total of 308,000 euros will be awarded. The city of Chemnitz is supporting the commitment with 80,000 euros. The Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (BMFSFJ) is providing 178,000 euros, with 50,000 euros coming from the Saxon State Ministry of the Interior and the State Prevention Council, according to the coordination centre for the Local Action Plan for Democracy, Tolerance and a Cosmopolitan Chemnitz (LAP).
Chemnitz has a strong civil society that is committed to a city of democracy and cosmopolitanism. A total of 53 applications were submitted to promote democracy. Of these, 30 projects, some of which have already taken place, will receive a grant. Seven further projects still have a chance of receiving funding.
The Network for Cultural and Youth Work e.V. will receive the largest grant of 85,000 euros to continue the external specialist and coordination centre. The Freunde der Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz e.V. (Friends of the Chemnitz Art Collections) will receive 20,000 euros to revitalise the Open Space. Courage-Werkstatt für demokratische Bildungsarbeit e.V., Netzstelle Chemnitz, will also receive 20,000 euros for educational work to promote democracy.
The Kreatives Chemnitz e.V. association has already successfully implemented the Hang zur Kultur 2022 festival. The Tüdelü project from different people e.V., which is funded by the LAP's municipal microproject fund, was recently held in Chemnitz again. Christopher Street Day Chemnitz e.V. is also supported by the LAP; the 10th CSD will take place in Chemnitz at the end of August. The association Alternatives Jugendzentrum Chemnitz e.V. has already been able to implement part of the series of events, for example the cycle tour Wege zum KZ-Sachsenburg. Further events will follow. Klub Solitaer e.V. has also already successfully realised its An die Arbeit! event.
The diversity of civil society in Chemnitz is reflected in the funded projects. In addition to various educational programmes, workshops, lectures, readings and exhibitions, a radio podcast, a simulation game, music workshops and festivals are also being funded by the Local Action Plan this year.
