On Saturday, 27 September, the 29th Saxon Competition for Accordion and Bandoneon "Werner Richter" will take place at the Chemnitz Municipal Music School, Gerichtsstraße 1. From 10 a.m., interested parties can watch the competitions of the participating music students. Admission is free of charge.
The traditional competition brings young talents from all over Saxony to Chemnitz. A total of around 40 participants will compete in five solo and three chamber music categories.
The day will end at 6 p.m. with a festive concert in the concert hall of the music school, where prizes and certificates will be awarded. Musical accompaniment will be provided by the Duo Klangtreff, consisting of accordion and cello. Interested parties are also invited. Admission is free of charge.
The competition is named after Werner Richter, who was one of the founding teachers of the municipal music school in 1950 and was head of the accordion department for decades until his retirement. As a teacher, composer and ensemble leader, he had a lasting influence on the musical life of the music school and was held in high esteem by colleagues and students alike. He also wrote suitable, inspiring and often amusing works for his students and ensembles, whether beginners or advanced.
