25 Years of Peaceful Revolution Reading: "Stefan Heym - One who was never silent"

A quarter of a century after the Peaceful Revolution of 1989, the International Stefan Heym Society is presenting a reading of texts by Stefan Heym in cooperation with Schauspiel Chemnitz. Born in Chemnitz, Heym repeatedly reflected critically on the political situation in the GDR in novels such as "Collin" and "5 Days in June", as well as in numerous speeches and essays, and is regarded as one of the most far-sighted spokespersons of the autumn of change. His speech on 4 November 1989 on Berlin's Alexanderplatz - "It is as if someone had pushed open the windows..." - is one of the most impressive moments of the democratic awakening at the time. Stefan Heym's biography of the century also made him a stimulating thinker for the Federal Republic of Germany in the years following reunification. In 1994, he opened the German Bundestag in his old age.
Reading on 3 October, the Day of German Unity, at 8 pm in the East Wing of the Schauspielhaus. With Inge Heym, Hartwig Albiro, Ulrike Uhlig, Elvira Grecki and others, based on a play by Franz Sodann.
