20th Chemnitz City Festival - Information from the traffic authorities
Traffic restrictions from Thursday (28 August) to Monday (1 September) - visitors from the surrounding area please note the 28-hour full closure of the main railway station
In view of the 20th Chemnitz City Festival being held in Chemnitz city centre from 28 to 31 August 2014, the City of Chemnitz traffic authority would like to ask you to take note of the traffic restrictions that are necessary for the construction, implementation and dismantling of the facilities and stages of the anniversary festival.Traffic restrictions will be in place from Thursday, 28 August, 8 a.m. to Monday, 1 September, 4 p.m. - the following closures are necessary and should therefore be taken into account when planning your visit to the city festival:
Full closure from Thursday, 28 August, 8 am:
- Brückenstraße between Straße der Nationen and Theaterstraße
- Theaterstraße from Hartmannstraße to Brückenstraße.
Closures for through traffic with residents free from 8 a.m. on Thursday, 28 August:
- Mühlenstraße between Stadtbad and Brückenstraße (access to Stadtbad and Stumpf Brückenstraße free)
- Straße der Nationen towards the city centre from Carolastraße.
Due to the construction work for the Chemnitz City Festival, the following closures of stationary traffic will be necessary:
Wednesday, 27 August, from 2 pm
- Brückenstraße car park between Straße der Nationen and Theaterstraße
- Car park in front of the State Office for Taxation and Finance
- Car parks in the centre of Mühlenstraße between Brückenstraße and Stadtbad
Please note: The City Festival event areas will be extended to include Theaterstraße between Webergasse and Hartmannstraße for the 2014 anniversary edition. Access to the Roter Turm underground car park/ Rathauspassagen multi-storey car park remains guaranteed. In this context, please note the changed traffic routing on Theaterstraße.
Visitors to the 20th Chemnitz City Festival who wish to travel by train from the surrounding area should note that Chemnitz Central Station will becompletelyclosed from 00:00 onSaturday,30 August until 04:00 on Sunday, 31 August, and that modified timetables will apply during this 28-hour closure. Deutsche Bahn AG(www.bahn.de) and CVAG(www.cvag.de) will provide direct information on changes to rail services as well as bus and tram services in the city centre.
