2023 fountain season begins at the end of March
Drinking fountains go into operation tomorrow for World Water Day - Klapperbrunnen will soon be bubbling again
Tomorrow, Wednesday, World Water Day, the three municipal drinking fountains will go into operation.
This year, the fountain season for the municipal fountains begins at the end of March.
The castle pond fountain will be the first to go into operation on 31 March. The early start-up is intended to actively influence the ecology of the water by increasing the oxygen input as a result of the stronger water movement.
The other fountains will then be put into operation from 14 April to 8 June in the city of Chemnitz in the following order:
- Market fountain
- Zipper fountain (Schloßteichinsel)
- Jakobikirchplatz water feature
- Am Roten Turm fountain (Stadthallenpark)
- Park of Youth (Schloßbergpark)
- Illuminated fountain (castle pond)
- Wedding fountain at the IHK building (Straße der Nationen)
- Fountain "Völkerfreundschaft" (Street of Nations)
- Umbrella fountain (Street of Nations)
- Children's fountain (Straße der Nationen)
- Rosenhof fountain (in front of the tower block)
- Ginkgo fountain basin (Rosenhof)
- Brühl Boulevard fountain
- "Hair washing" fountain in Albertipark/Sonnenberg
- Azzano fountain (Am Rathaus street, next to Kaufhof building)
- Sachsenhalle water basin (Dr.-Salvador-Allende-Straße)
- Röhrsdorf ball fountain
- Sprudelstein Grüna (Hexenberg)
- Saxonia fountain (Johannisplatz)
165,000 has been budgeted for the maintenance of the fountains for the 2023 financial year. The maintenance and management of the fountains is supplemented by sponsorship of in-kind and cash contributions from companies and associations.
Most of the fountains mentioned are managed by the utility company inetz (eins) on the basis of a service contract. The Röhrsdorf ball fountain is operated by the village of Röhrsdorf. The market fountain is maintained by Brunnenmeisterei M.& S. Schreier GmbH from Thuringia.
The following three fountains are operated by sponsors:
- Sprudelstein Grüna - sponsored by Heimatverein Grüna
- Fountain at the market hall (Seeberplatz) - sponsored by REAL Vermögen
- Saxonia fountain - sponsor Kellnberger company
Unfortunately, the following fountains cannot be operated due to technical defects:
- Fountain at Falkeplatz
- Fountain at the Pelzmühle
- Two fountain basins on Brückenstraße
- Fountain at the corner of Dresdner Straße and Hainstraße.
Klapperbrunnen will soon be bubbling again
The renovation of the Klapperbrunnen fountain on the Straße der Nationen has already begun, so that it can also be expected to be put back into operation this season. (More information will be provided separately).
