2022 fountain season opens with new market fountain

Fountain festival on 14 April, from 12 to 2 pm, market

This year's fountain season officially starts on Maundy Thursday, 14 April, with the ceremonial opening of the new market fountain. From 12 noon to 2 p.m., a fountain festival will be held around the fountain on the market square together with the artist Daniel Widrig and the construction companies involved. All Chemnitz residents and especially all children are cordially invited to attend.

The castle pond fountain has been in operation since 30 March in order to positively influence the ecology of the water with a higher oxygen input due to the increased water movement. This procedure is particularly important after the winter.

The other 21 fountains in the city of Chemnitz will gradually be put into operation in the period from 14 April to 10 June.

  • Zipper fountain (Schloßteichinsel)
  • Jakobikirchplatz water feature
  • Am Roten Turm fountain (Stadthallenpark)
  • Park of Youth (Schloßbergpark)
  • Illuminated fountain (castle pond)
  • Wedding fountain at the IHK building (Straße der Nationen)
  • Fountain "Völkerfreundschaft" (Street of Nations)
  • Umbrella fountain (Street of Nations)
  • Children's fountain (Straße der Nationen)
  • Rosenhof fountain (in front of the tower block)
  • Ginkgo fountain basin (Rosenhof)
  • Brüh-Boulevard fountain
  • "Hair washing" fountain in Albertipark/Sonnenberg
  • Azzano fountain (Am Rathaus street, next to Kaufhof building)
  • Sachsenhalle water basin (Dr.-Salvador-Allende-Straße)
  • Röhrsdorf ball fountain
  • Grüna fountain (Hexenberg)
  • Fountain at the market hall as standing water (Seeberplatz)
  • Saxonia fountain (Johannisplatz)

16 of the above-mentioned fountains are managed by the supplier inetz GmbH on the basis of a service contract.

The City of Chemnitz is supported in the maintenance and management of the fountains by sponsorship in the form of in-kind and cash contributions from companies and associations.

This applies specifically to

  • Sprudelstein Grüna - Sponsor: Heimatverein Grüna
  • Fountain at the market hall (Seeberplatz) - Sponsor: REAL Vermögen
  • Saxonia fountain - sponsor: Kellnberger company


Unfortunately, six fountains cannot be operated at present for technical reasons. These include the fountain on Falkeplatz, the fountain at the Pelzmühle, two fountain basins on Brückenstraße and the fountain on the corner of Dresdner Straße and Hainstraße. The Klapperbrunnen fountain is due to be renovated in the course of 2022.
