2020 annual financial statements confirmed by city council

At its meeting today, the City Council adopted the 2020 annual financial statements with a positive overall result of 89.4 million euros. The City Council adopted the budget bylaws for 2020 on 19 December 2018.

Despite the restrictions resulting from the coronavirus pandemic, the result of the 2020 annual financial statements documents a positive budget performance. The result was also improved in the 2020 financial year compared to the plan.

The improvement in the result is primarily due to non-cash income, including the positive performance of the municipal companies. Among other things, lower expenses were recorded for subsidies to affiliated companies at 10.7 million euros, social benefits at 11.9 million euros, the management of land and buildings at 3.2 million euros and the maintenance/management/acquisition of movable assets at 5.9 million euros.

The lower income from taxes in connection with the coronavirus pandemic was largely offset by the federal and state governments.

Cash and cash equivalents increased by 14.5 million euros. These funds have already been used to balance the 2021/2022 budget.

The level of debt from investment loans was reduced to 119.2 million euros in 2020, i.e. the per capita debt is 483.54 euros/capita. Debt will increase again in the coming years.
