2014 outdoor pool season: inconsistent swimming weather only attracted around 70,500 visitors to Chemnitz's four municipal outdoor pools

EFC's Rabenstein reservoir remains open - traditionally closed with the kite festival

Unfortunately, the results at the end of the 2014 outdoor pool season in Chemnitz's four municipal outdoor pools are not as pleasing as in the previous year: while almost 112,000 bathers were counted in Gablenz. Bernsdorf, Einsiedel and Wittgensdorf in 2013, only around 70,500 swimmers visited the four outdoor pools in the 2014 season. This was clearly due to the weather, which was not very suitable for open-air swimming, as "Klärchen" made herself rather scarce after the hopeful start to the season, especially in August. Apart from the rain, it was often too cool for swimming and the temperatures were also too low for relaxing or playing sports on the outdoor pool lawn.

Of the 70,457 bathers counted in the four outdoor pools in the city of Chemnitz in the 2014 season, 22,547 visited the Gablenz outdoor pool, 22,823 the Bernsdorf outdoor pool, 15,802 the Wittgensdorf outdoor pool and 9,285 the Einsiedel outdoor pool.

1,034 participants in the "School Cup" series of events and 2,083 visitors to the district festival organised once again this year in the outdoor pool area contributed to the number of visitors to the Bernsdorf outdoor pool.

The outdoor pool season was extended beyond the planned period this time at the Wittgensdorf and Einsiedel outdoor pools, which were both open until 31 August, and finally at the Gablenz outdoor pool, which was open until 7 September.

A comparison of the number of bathers: in 2013, 111,415 bathers were counted in the four municipal outdoor pools in Chemnitz, compared to 75,937 in 2012, 69,793 in 2011 and 107,814 in 2010.

The Rabenstein reservoir operated by Eissport und Freizeit GmbH Chemnitz is traditionally still open until the end of September, hopefully in fine weather. Here, too, visitor numbers have unfortunately fallen short of expectations due to the weather: In the current season, only around 53,500 bathers have been counted so far.

The traditional end of the season is on Sunday, 12 October with the 17th Chemnitz Dragon Festival.
