2013 annual financial statements confirmed by city council

The City Council of the City of Chemnitz approved the 2013 annual financial statements of the City of Chemnitz at its meeting today.

The 2013 annual financial statements were prepared in the first quarter of 2016, followed by a local audit by the City of Chemnitz Audit Office. This audit did not result in any significant objections. At the same time, the key figures of the unaudited annual financial statements were presented at a meeting of the Administration and Finance Committee in May of this year.

While the budget still showed a double-digit deficit of 25.9 million euros, the annual financial statements showed a positive result of 58.1 million euros. The positive result was primarily due to the good tax income, particularly as a result of one-off effects.

In 2013, the City of Chemnitz was able to reduce its debt from borrowing for investments by around 24.5 million euros to 235.9 million euros. No new loans were taken out.

"The 2013 annual financial statements demonstrate responsible management and reflect the consolidation efforts of recent years," said City Treasurer Sven Schulze.
