1st stakeholder conference on street design in the city centre
These are the questions addressed by the "Street space design for the city centre ring road" project. Under this very title, Mayor Petra Wesseler invites you to a first stakeholder conference on Friday, 2 November from 3 to 6 pm in room 4.100 in the Bürgerhaus am Wall.
On the podium, city centre stakeholders will meet with experts from urban, landscape and transport planning and administrative staff from the internal project group of the building department. Transport expert Prof Dr Hartmut Topp, who has already accompanied similar processes throughout Germany, will moderate the event.
The conference is intended as a public dialogue platform for stakeholders in the centre with experts in urban and transport planning. They will discuss suggestions and questions about the street design of the city centre ring road on the podium. The stakeholder conference will begin with short presentations that will provide an overview of the "Streetscape design for the city centre ring road" project and its sub-projects. This will be followed by a moderated discussion on the podium, in which the panellists will also be involved.
With the "Zentrumsring streetscape design" project, the building department is building on the discussions and impetus of recent years regarding the design of streetscapes in the centre of Chemnitz. In particular, the design proposals presented in 2011 for Brückenstraße and Theaterstraße with light rail as part of the Chemnitz model, which were presented in various contexts, led to intensive discussions. The topics ranged from great approval to the question of how road traffic would function under changed conditions. The proposals were also the subject of a consultation paper for the Planning, Building and Environment Committee in June 2011.
The different positions on the design proposals should deliberately not be ignored, but discussed together. The aim is to answer as many questions as possible in a critical dialogue and to make suggestions that will make the design ideas even better.
The aim of the stakeholder conferences is to advance the design approaches for the city centre ring to such an extent that they can form the basis for further planning steps, especially for the preliminary planning of the Chemnitz model in the course of Brückenstrasse, Theaterstrasse and Hartmannstrasse. However, the design of the street spaces is also of great importance for the development of important city centre properties, such as the area between Johannisplatz and "Schocken".
The "Zentrumsring streetscape design" project is intended to create the conditions for the city to take advantage of a unique opportunity offered by the construction of light rail lines based on the Chemnitz model, both for streetscape design in the city centre and for city centre development in general.
