1st Chemnitz Bibo Advent calendar goes online
The first door of the digital calendar opens on Tuesday
What would Christmas be without stories, poems and songs? Unimaginable, really. At this thought at the latest, everyone should realise how important these people are, who touch and enchant with their art. All year round. But now it's quiet. Public performances and events are not possible for artists.
The initiators of the 1st Chemnitz Bibo Advent calendar want to change precisely this situation. They want to give creative artists from the city a stage and set an example. Culture lives and culture connects.
The result is a digital advent calendar with 24 doors that can be viewed at www.stadtbibliothek-chemnitz.de. All videos can also be accessed via the city library's YouTube channel. A new one is added every day.
The newly opened Stefan-und-Inge-Heym-Arbeitsbibliothek was chosen as the main filming location, which the project aims to draw even greater public attention to.
Behind the 24 little doors are people who characterise the cultural scene in Chemnitz. They read poems and stories or sing and make music. They include actors, authors, musicians and many familiar faces, including the head of the city library Elke Beer, music school director Nancy Gibson, author Stefan Tschök, the pastor of St Jakobi Kreuz parish in Chemnitz Dorothee Lücke and cultural mayor Ralph Burghart.
The project has received support from the 1st Chemnitz Authors' Association, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. As no celebrations are possible due to the coronavirus, this anniversary is being honoured in a special way with the Advent calendar. Several authors have contributed their texts for reading.
Behind the project are Chemnitz radio presenter Conny Hartmann and her husband Mario in collaboration with the Chemnitz film team, Mike Pohle and Susann Pohle. A total of almost 60 people are involved in the project.
The project is supported by the "So geht sächsisch" campaign of the Free State of Saxony.
