This year's Johanneum Children's and Youth Foundation Day will take place on Wednesday, 22 October at 5 p.m. to mark "170 years of Johanneum - an institution that has been supporting, educating and empowering young people for generations" at Stadtwirtschaft Chemnitz, Jakobstraße 46.
The invited guests can expect a varied programme with musical, artistic and content-related highlights. Encounters, discussions and inspiration will take centre stage - based on the idea: "Good things work when we share them."
The patron of the event is Hans-Rudolf Merkel, former Chairman of the Foundation.
Representatives of the media are also invited. There will be an opportunity to talk to those involved in the foundation, the patron and guests.
170 years of Johanneum means 170 years of commitment to young people, education and participation. Children and young people across generations have been shaped, supported and inspired. The Foundation Day honours this history and at the same time looks to the future: how can we create spaces today and tomorrow in which children and young people can grow, learn and develop?
Background
The "Johanneum" Children and Youth Foundation is a foundation of the City of Chemnitz. It supports projects such as the Johanneum Academy, a project initiated by the foundation itself.
The history of the Johanneum Children and Youth Foundation began in 1855, when Carl Christian Hübner from Chemnitz initiated the establishment of a foundation to give girls and boys from socially disadvantaged families equal opportunities in life. When it was re-established in 2002, it became the first legally independent municipal foundation in the city of Chemnitz.
The sponsored projects primarily help children and young people in Chemnitz, most of whom are on the dark side of life and whose life plans are sometimes characterised by a lack of courage and prospects.
The foundation can be supported with donations and endowments so that it can continue to provide effective help.
