16th Primary School Conference of Chemnitz Children

On Monday, 26 September, from 1.30 pm, Chemnitz schoolchildren will meet for the 16th Primary School Conference in the City Council Chamber at Chemnitz Town Hall. This year's theme, "I am active and stand up for my environment and the lives of animals", was chosen by the pupils themselves in a child-orientated democratic process.
The conference will be opened with the support of the city's music school. Pupils from the Georgius Agricola Grammar School and the Altchemnitz special school will provide insights from their own projects. On the day, the participating children will conduct various workshops on the subject of environmental and animal protection. The groups of children can discuss their different points of view and develop theses together. These can then be taken away from the plenary session and taken up and organised at their respective schools. In this way, the topic of the environment can be experienced and grasped locally.
The aim of this extraordinary session is to convey democratic processes to the children in a lively and vivid way. The interest in the topic is enormous: around 15 different primary schools in Chemnitz have registered pupils for the conference. The primary school conference is being organised by the City of Chemnitz's Children and Youth Officer, Ute Spindler, in cooperation with municipal institutions, pupils from the Georgius Agricola and Altchemnitz special schools as well as independent socio-cultural initiatives, commercial enterprises such as eins and ASR and associations such as the UNICEF working group.
In addition, an exhibition on the Chemnitz Environmental Award will be organised for the first time by the City of Chemnitz Environmental Agency, the City of Chemnitz Children and Youth Officer and eins energie.
The exhibition in the eins building shows in pictures and on the basis of the handicrafts how the participating children and young people have dealt intensively with topics such as vegetable cultivation, soil health, upcycling, waste disposal, the careful use of resources, material cycles or the interaction of different animal and plant species.
This year, a total of 667 children and young people from Chemnitz took part in the environmental award in 22 different projects.
The exhibition is open to all interested parties and groups at the customer centre in the eins building, Johannisstraße 1, until 27 October from Monday to Friday between 10 am and 6 pm. Interested groups of more than 15 people are requested to register in advance by emailing umweltamt(at)stadt-chemnitz.de.
