160 years of the Natural Science Society in Chemnitz - Everything is in flux!

Lecture by Dr Thorid Zierold on 16 January, 6.30 pm in the TIETZ, event hall

On Wednesday 16 January at 6.30 pm, interested parties are invited to a lecture on the founding of the Chemnitz Natural Science Society and the path to our city's first museum, the "Municipal Natural Science Collection", in the TIETZ event hall. Admission is free.

Dr Thorid Zierold, Head of the Natural Sciences Department at the Chemnitz Museum of Natural History, will talk about the motives, determination and patience of 16 Chemnitz citizens that ultimately led to the founding of the city's first museum. Following on from the current collection, exhibition and research work, the speaker will identify future challenges for the Friends of the Museum für Naturkunde Chemnitz e. V., which was founded in 1996 in the tradition of the Natural History Society.
"The lecture provides an insight into tense association meetings and the professional fields of the association members. It provides information about curious natural history objects that were brought to Chemnitz from all over the world," says Dr Thorid Zierold.

In 2019, the Museum für Naturkunde Chemnitz will celebrate the 160th anniversary of the founding of the Natural History Society and four decades of the "Insectarium".
