15th "Reading against violence" project days in the city library
Anja Tuckerman reads and talks to pupils about migration
The well-known children's author Anja Tuckermann will be presenting two of her latest books for younger children on the "Reading against violence" project days from 2 to 4 November.
13 primary school classes will be guests when Anja Tuckermann reads from "Alle da! : our colourful life" and "Nusret and the cow" and talks to the pupils about the topic of migration.
She tells them which countries the heroes of her books come from and why, and also describes their wishes and desires. Successes and problems in settling in, finding new friends, learning the difficult foreign language and finally arriving in a completely different culture. Exciting and difficult things are discussed, but the author shows how colourful life becomes when many different people from all over the world come together.
Alongside the texts, Anja Tuckermann includes pictures and additional information about the migrant children's countries of origin. The protagonists of the stories and the audience are the same age, which will make the planned conversations easier. The author comes from Berlin, where she runs writing workshops for young people and adults alongside her work as a writer. She has received numerous awards for her work, including the German Youth Literature Prize.
The "Reading against Violence" project has been running in the city library since 2002, with readings by children's and young people's authors focussing on this constantly topical issue. They show causes and correlations in a differentiated and comprehensible way and thus offer the opportunity to actively deal with the problem in class.
The project was initiated by the association Förderer der Stadtbibliothek Chemnitz e.V. and is supported by the Local Action Plan for Democracy, Tolerance and a Cosmopolitan Chemnitz (LAP).
