15th conference of the Chemnitz Crime Prevention Council: "Opportunities and limits of municipal security policy"

On Thursday, 20 October 2016, the Chemnitz Crime Prevention Council invites you to the
15th security conference of the city. Around 130 invited people from politics, administration, business, sport and society are expected to attend the event.
The event is open to the press.

The topic of security and order, especially in the city centre, is of greater public concern than any other. The conference will serve to analyse the current situation and discuss problems, options for action and sustainable solutions together with the participants.

The Chemnitz Police Headquarters will present the current security situation in Chemnitz. The situation report will be supplemented by a presentation from Chemnitz University of Technology. This deals with the fear of crime factor, various influencing factors and consequences for life in urban areas. To this end, Chemnitz University of Technology compared the subjective perception of safety of the population in Chemnitz, Dresden and Leipzig with actual crime rates. The study also analysed the role of the media in this context. The speaker is Dr André Körner, specialist psychologist for legal psychology (BDP/DGPs).

"Opportunities and limits of municipal security policy" will be the subject of a lecture by Prof Dr Manfred Rolfes, University of Potsdam, Institute of Geography.

Miko Runkel, Mayor for Law, Security and Environmental Protection and Chairman of the city's Crime Prevention Council, will present Chemnitz's measures in the area of order and security.

Afterwards, the participants will come together for an exchange and discussion.

The results will then be presented.
