150 years of the Glösa volunteer fire brigade: The anniversary is celebrated with a festive event and fire brigade festival on Schulberg

The 150th anniversary of the Chemnitz-Glösa volunteer fire brigade will be celebrated on Saturday, 8 June and Sunday, 9 June 2013 with a fire brigade festival on the fairground of the Glösa leisure centre, Schulberg 5a. Guests are welcome and warmly invited from 10 a.m. on both days - admission to the festival is of course free on both days.

The 150th anniversary celebrations will kick off on Friday, 7 June at 6 pm in the marquee on Schulberg with a festive event at which City Treasurer Berthold Brehm will give the keynote speech. Mayor Barbara Ludwig will congratulate the members of the Glösa volunteer fire brigade on their special anniversary. The invited guests of honour also include leading representatives of the fire brigade and city fire brigade association as well as the volunteer fire brigades of the city of Chemnitz.

On Saturday (8 June), the fire brigade comrades, together with pupils and teachers from the primary school and its support association as well as the Gemeinsam für Glösa e.V. association, will be launching a colourful programme for young and old with lots of activities for the youngest visitors to the festival. There will be a sponsored run organised by the primary school, the proceeds of which will be used to buy and install play equipment for the children in the park at Langteich. The organisers are still looking for runners and other sponsors for this event. The school can also be visited.

The programme also includes an exhibition of fire brigade vehicles and equipment as well as a presentation of various operational exercises: for example, the professional fire brigade's "AB-Rettung" roll-off container will be used to set up a supply point for a large number of injured people, which may be necessary after a mass accident on the motorway, for example. The members of the youth fire brigade will of course also present their skills at the festival weekend and will be available to answer questions from interested children in particular. There will also be games and craft activities for girls and boys throughout the day on the festival site and plenty of entertainment in the evening with a show programme in the marquee from 6 pm. The Glösa carnival club, the "Britina" combo, a fire show and various dance performances will be part of the programme.

Sunday (9 June) begins at 10 a.m. with a church service in the marquee. This will be followed by a musical morning pint. The programme also includes a mantrailer demonstration with rescue dogs: The dogs have to pick up the trail of a missing person and eventually find them.
For Sunday afternoon, the members of the fire brigade have prepared a fire-fighting exercise through the ages.
Last but not least, on both days of the festival, as is fitting for such an anniversary, there will be plenty of food and drink on offer.
