The Hungarian Cultural Association of Chemnitz and the surrounding area is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year. Hungarians living in Chemnitz and the surrounding area founded their own association on 20 April 2010.
Over the past 15 years, the association has grown from 27 founding members to around 100 members - including former contract workers and their family members who arrived before the fall of communism as well as Hungarian immigrants who settled in the region after 1989.
The aim of the association is to present and communicate Hungarian culture through literary readings, cultural evenings, exhibitions and encounters, both in German and in Hungarian. The association also sees itself as a Hungarian substitute home for Hungarians living here and is a point of contact for anyone interested in Hungary and Hungarian culture.
Ágota Szabó, chairwoman of the association: "Our events are mostly open to guests, for example the monthly regulars' table. Please come along and help us shape the next 15 years of the association!"
"The association has become an integral part of intercultural life in Chemnitz," says Etelka Kobuß, Migration Officer for the City of Chemnitz. "It takes part in the Intercultural Weeks every year and will also be at the market on 20 September 2025 to mark the opening of this year's series of events together with other organisations."
