14-year-old girl from Chemnitz wins international painting competition organised by Mayors for Peace

On Monday, 13 February at 3 pm, the Chemnitz winner of the Mayors for Peace international painting competition, Collien Gröbner, will be honoured by Mayor Knut Kunze in the council chamber of the town hall. Afterwards, the two will raise the Mayors for Peace flag together in front of the town hall.

In 2022, the Mayors for Peace organised an international painting competition on the theme of "Peaceful Towns". Children and young people of different ages were invited to submit works of art they had painted themselves that addressed the topic. In total, more than 8,400 artworks were submitted from cities in 15 countries.
Numerous children and young people from various schools in Chemnitz also took part with creative contributions. 14-year-old Collien Gröbner, who attends Friedrich-Adolf-Wilhelm-Diesterweg-Oberschule, won first prize in her age group.
The winning picture and other drawings by children and young people will be on display at the Chemnitz Peace Day on 5 March 2023.
In their work, the Mayors for Peace campaign for a world free of nuclear weapons and peaceful coexistence in society. Chemnitz has been a member of the initiative since 2006.
