13th nationwide reading aloud day on 18 November
To mark nationwide Read Aloud Day, Member of the Bundestag Detlef Müller and Library Director Elke Beer will be reading in the TIETZ Central Library on Friday, 18 November.
Detlef Müller will read to children from the Wiesenstraße daycare centre at 9.00 am. This is the second time he has supported the reading promotion initiative.
In the afternoon at 4.30 pm, Elke Beer will read stories about reading and the library in a public event. Admission is free.
The nationwide reading aloud day organised by Stiftung Lesen, the weekly newspaper DIE ZEIT and the Deutsche Bahn Foundation has been held on the third Friday in November every year since 2004 and is now regarded as Germany's biggest reading aloud festival. The nationwide Reading Aloud Day aims to raise public awareness of the importance of reading aloud and to inspire a love of reading.
The readers on this day of action show with great passion, on a voluntary and unpaid basis, how wonderful and important reading aloud is. The aim is to awaken enthusiasm for reading and reading aloud and to bring children into contact with the written and narrated word at an early age.
