120 years of the Botanical Garden
Opening of a new aquarium and terrarium hall on 29 March, 10 a.m.
On Thursday 29 March at 10 a.m., the Botanic Garden at Leipziger Straße 147 will open a new aquarium and terrarium hall to mark its 120th anniversary.
Representatives of the media are cordially invited.
After a construction period of one and a half years, the newly designed vivarium will be opened. The previous aquarium and terrarium house has been completely remodelled, creating a new and contemporary home for the animals. Communities of animals and plants from the tropical regions of Asia, Africa and America are now shown in vivariums, a terrarium with an integrated aquarium.
The now 12-hectare site on Leipziger Strasse comprises three areas: the Botanical Garden, the School Biology Centre and the Nature Conservation Centre. In addition to the botanical areas, there are also animal enclosures. The centre is the only one of its kind in Germany.
Numerous associations organise events in the botanical garden. One of the most popular is the butterfly show "Flying Gems", organised by NABU RV Erzgebirge e.V. It is taking place for the 17th time this year and is also open from 29 March. Visitors can learn interesting facts about these fascinating animals until 27 May.
