10th Chemnitz Reading Advent in the Chemnitz City Library
* Chemnitz personalities read Christmas texts * Crime story reading with Gabriela and Michael Gwisdek
The City Library and the Protestant Forum have been jointly organising the Reading Advent series for 10 years now. On four afternoons in December, personalities from Chemnitz read Christmas texts and are in dialogue with pastor Dorothee Lücke. The readings take place on Thursdays at 5 pm in the TIETZ, Culture & Countries library area.
Admission is free.
This year, the graphic artist, painter and sculptor Christian Lang will read on 1 December; Birgit Raddatz, director of the school museum in Ebersdorf, on 8 December; Gundula Hoffmann, director of the Chemnitz Figurentheater, on 15 December and Ferenc Csák, director of the Kulturbetrieb Chemnitz, on 22 December.
The start of the reading series will be opened with a small exhibition of paintings by Christian Lang.
The highlight of each year's Reading Advent is an event with a prominent artist. In the past, Otto Mellies, Dieter Bellmann, Sabine Ebert, Gisela May, Carmen Rohrbach, Gojko Mitić, Thomas Bille and Jörg Schüttauf have performed in front of an enthusiastic audience.
On 6 December 2016, Gabriela Gwisdek will read from her psychological thriller "Nachts kommt die Angst", in which a haunted house becomes a nightmare. She will be supported by her husband and actor Michael Gwisdek. The reading starts at 7 pm.
Tickets at a price of 12 euros, concessions 8 euros, can be reserved by calling 0371 488 4366.
The book "Night comes the fear"
The house of horrors In a small village in the Uckermark, painter Alexandra hopes to find peace again. But the house she has rented is considered haunted by the villagers. Alexandra thinks she hears footsteps in the attic - then she learns that her previous tenant has disappeared without a trace and that five women have recently been killed in the neighbourhood. She befriends Harris, the village policeman, who is obviously following her. Alexandra doesn't find out whether he has fallen in love with her or simply wants to protect her. When Theresia, the beautiful waitress from the village pub, is found dead, Alexandra feels she can hardly bear the atmosphere in her house. She receives warnings to pack her things. Is someone trying to drive her mad? But why? A gripping psychological thriller full of surprising twists and turns.
