Short description:
The non-profit and voluntary Walden e.V. was founded in Chemnitz in 2009 and sees itself as an association for youth work and youth welfare with a focus on the promotion and implementation of experiential education in educational programmes in the Chemnitz area.
Experiential education is concerned with group experiences in nature in order to develop personality and social skills. Today, it is regarded as an integral part of holistic educational concepts, as key qualifications such as social skills, a willingness to take risks and personality are playing an increasingly important role in society. Teaching values and supporting the growth and development processes of children and young people combined with nature-based activities form the main focus of the work. Walden e. V. has been a recognised independent youth welfare organisation since 2014.
Since its foundation, Walden e.V. has increasingly expanded its cooperation with municipal institutions, schools and independent youth welfare organisations.
The association is a member of the state-wide organisation AGJF Sachsen e.V. (Arbeitsgemeinschaft Jugend- und Freizeitstätten), the network
"Erlebnispädagogische Prozessbegleitung Sachsen" network and in the "Girls and Young Women Chemnitz" working group.
In recent years, Walden e.V. has also realised youth welfare projects in cooperation with the Chemnitz youth court assistance service and other associations in the city.
Since 2009, Walden e.V. has been the organiser of the Chemnitz Slackfest in cooperation with Solaris FZU gGmbH and has also been involved in the socio-cultural event "fuego a la isla" organised by Fuego e.V. since the same year.
