The history of the Singakademie Chemnitz e. V. dates back to 1816, when the first mixed choir was founded in Chemnitz.
The (re-)founding concert of the Singakademie Karl-Marx-Stadt finally took place on 12 November 1966, and the name was changed to Singakademie Chemnitz in 1991.
