The Sächsisches Sinfonieorchester Chemnitz e.V. (SSO) is one of the leading amateur orchestras in Saxony and performs with a full symphonic line-up. The repertoire ranges from classical symphonies and light music to musicals and film music.
In addition to two major concerts a year in the Chemnitz City Hall, the orchestra also plays chamber concerts, is invited to concert events nationwide and can boast regular orchestra tours and other activities. The SSO rehearses weekly on Wednesdays in the auditorium of the Vocational School Centre for Technology I - Industrial School Chemnitz. The orchestra was founded in 1961 as the Karl-Marx-Stadt Workers' Symphony Orchestra. In 1991, the orchestra was registered as a non-profit organisation and renamed the Sächsisches Sinfonieorchester Chemnitz e. V..
