Short description:
Following in the footsteps of its early predecessor, the Chemnitzer Kunsthütte, founded in 1860, the association has dedicated itself to the promotion of contemporary art and its mediation.
As a supporting organisation, it assumes responsibility for the municipal art collection Neue Sächsische Galerie and is also the legal owner of all its exhibition projects.
The association supports the work of the Neue Sächsische Galerie in a variety of ways and ensures that the collection of contemporary Saxon art since 1945 continues to grow and be updated by making purchases and acquiring donations.
The Kunstverein realises its own projects and offers its members an interested forum for initiatives.
It co-operates with various partners of civic engagement in the region and beyond.
