Musikbund Chemnitz e. V. works as an umbrella organisation for 25 amateur choirs, ensembles and orchestras from Chemnitz and the surrounding area with around 900 members of all ages. The spectrum ranges from school choirs to senior choirs, from concert choirs to pop choirs and sign language choirs.
Founded in 1992, the Musikbund Chemnitz offers its member associations organisational and financial support as well as further training for choir members. Since 11 November 2006, the Musikbund Chemnitz has been one of four regional associations in the Sächsischer Chorverband e. V. and thus a member of the Deutscher Chorverband e. V.. At the same time, the Musikbund Chemnitz is also available as a contact for choirs and ensembles that are not members of the choral associations.
Annual events organised by the Musikbund Chemnitz include the Singers' Festival, the Liederpark together with the park railway, participation in the Fête de la musique and the Pre-Advent Singing Hat Concert in Tietz. The association actively supports Christmas carol singing in Chemnitz stadium. The Musikbund Chemnitz particularly supports school, children's and youth choirs.
The Musikbund Chemnitz works together with other institutions and associations in Chemnitz, such as the municipal music school. It is also open to joint interdisciplinary projects.
