The Slovenian-Italian twin towns of Nova Gorica and Gorizia celebrated their joint opening as European Capitals of Culture. On 8 February, a large ceremony on the transnational Europaplatz marked the symbolic reunification of the once divided cities. Lord Mayor Sven Schulze, Mayor of Culture Dagmar Ruscheinsky and the Managing Directors of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 gGmbH, Andrea Pier and Stefan Schmidtke, took part in the celebrations. A cross-border parade and an impressive opening show made the day a cultural highlight.
