Tierpark Chemnitz: Triple offspring at the Korsaks

On 1 April, the corsac pair at Chemnitz Zoo gave birth to three young animals, which are developing very well so far. For a few days now, they have been increasingly leaving their shelter and curiously exploring their enclosure. This means that visitors can now also observe the little corsacs on their first exploratory tours.

The female corsac has only been living at Chemnitz Zoo since August 2025. Initially, it seemed as if the pair needed a little more time to get to know each other. This makes the first offspring all the more pleasing.</p

<p>The corsac (Vulpes corsac), also known as the steppe fox, is perfectly adapted to the steppes and semi-deserts of Central Asia and can withstand even extreme weather conditions and cold thanks to its dense fur.

<p>The corsac's breeding season is usually between January and March, but can be slightly delayed in zoological facilities. After a gestation period of around seven to eight weeks, several young are usually born - usually between two and eleven. At birth, they are still very small and only weigh around 50 to 80 grams.

<p>Both parents take care of the rearing. In the first few weeks, the young are suckled, but begin to eat solid food after around one month. They are finally fully grown at around four to five months.</p
