The KOSMOS business hub brings people, ideas and technologies together
Today, Lord Mayor Sven Schulze announced that the business and academic communities will also be showcasing themselves at KOSMOS Chemnitz on Saturday 29 August through a business hub.
How can we work together to ensure that Chemnitz and the region remain great places to live, work and do business in the future? What skills, ideas and technologies do we need to achieve this – and how will this generate new value for the entire region? The Business Hub will examine these questions for the future from an economic perspective.
From 12 noon to 10 pm, around 40 companies, universities, research organisations, institutions and initiatives will be showcasing, on the square between the Hartmannfabrik and the Hartmannhalle, the contribution they are already making today to the development of Chemnitz and south-west Saxony. After all, the economy shapes far more than just businesses and jobs. It creates value and career prospects, puts innovations into practice and plays a key role in determining how attractive and sustainable a region is.
The business hub brings these connections to life across three themed areas: Talent Street, Tech Area and Travel & Conference. There, visitors can discover, try things out, discuss and engage in conversation with the people who are shaping the region’s future.
Talent Street: The future begins with people
A strong region needs people who can contribute their skills, ideas and experience. Talent Street therefore focuses on personal potential, training, higher education, professions and career paths.
Companies, universities and other stakeholders provide insights into different career paths and invite visitors to discover their own skills and engage in direct conversation. It’s not just about finding the right profession for you, but also about exploring the opportunities Chemnitz and the region offer for your personal and professional journey.
Tech Area: The future is already taking shape
Which technologies will shape the future of how we produce, work, build or travel? And what contribution is Chemnitz making to these developments? The Tech Area brings the latest developments from companies, universities, research institutions and innovation networks right into the heart of KOSMOS. Practical applications, exhibits and hands-on activities demonstrate the research, development and work taking place in the region.
From hydrogen and new mobility solutions, through digitalisation and smart systems, to new approaches to energy and construction, one thing becomes clear: the technologies of tomorrow are already being developed, researched and applied today in Chemnitz and South-West Saxony.
Travel & Conference: Creating value through an attractive location
A strong business location also thrives on people enjoying coming to Chemnitz – as visitors, for events, conferences and congresses. Tourism and the conference industry create added value whilst also shaping how a city is perceived beyond its borders.
‘Travel & Conference’ therefore focuses on Chemnitz as a destination, a meeting place and a venue for events. Tourism, industrial heritage and the conference industry demonstrate the potential there is to inspire people to visit Chemnitz and to create reasons for them to do so.
At the same time, the focus extends beyond the Capital of Culture year: how can the increased attention be harnessed to attract new visitors, events and economic opportunities for Chemnitz in the long term?
Ideas, research and questions about the future on stage
A dedicated stage programme links these three worlds of experience and brings together different perspectives from business, science and society.
Chemnitz University of Technology demonstrates how an idea from basic research can develop into an application and ultimately a business. With its children’s university programme ‘Science Goes to School’, it also caters to the youngest explorers.
‘Creative Saxony’ explores how the creative industries, as a source of ideas, a partner in innovation and a key location factor, help shape a region’s development. Various programme items address topics from industry, technology, the world of work and location development, and encourage discussion.
An economic hub for urban society
The economic hub is not aimed at just one target group. Young people looking for career prospects will find points of connection here, as will families, those interested in technology, working professionals or people who wish to get to know their city from a different perspective. After all, economic development affects us all. It influences the career opportunities that arise, the ideas that are put into practice here, the technologies that shape our everyday lives, and how attractive Chemnitz will be in future to people from the region and beyond.
In this way, the Economic Hub becomes a place where the future can be explored, tested, discussed and jointly developed from an economic perspective.
The Economic Hub is being developed by the City of Chemnitz’s Economic Affairs Department in collaboration with the Chemnitz Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the Chemnitz Chamber of Crafts, the Industrieverein Sachsen 1828 e. V., and numerous partners from the worlds of business, academia, research, education and tourism.
