The City of Chemnitz, the Federal Government and the Free State of Saxony are once again funding democracy projects in Chemnitz in 2026. A total of 135,460 euros in funding has been made available.
For the Local Action Plan for Democracy, Tolerance and a Cosmopolitan Chemnitz (LAP), 56,500 euros were available from municipal funds. Of this, 53,730 euros were approved. Applications of up to 5,000 euros could be made per project.
Under the federal programme “Demokratie leben!”, €78,960 was available for Chemnitz. The programme is funded by federal funds, co-financing from the Free State of Saxony and municipal funds. A total of €76,848 was approved. The maximum grant amount here was 20,000 euros per project.
A total of 49 project applications were submitted: 20 for the federal programme “Demokratie leben!” and 29 for the LAP. Following processing and assessment by the specialist unit, the applications were discussed by the monitoring committee. This year, 14 projects are being funded under the LAP, and four under the federal programme.
The funded initiatives focus on programmes for young people and projects in public spaces. The projects thus address needs in Chemnitz’s neighbourhoods and are intended, amongst other things, to strengthen stable relationships and employment opportunities, democratic resilience and non-violent conflict resolution strategies.
Details of the funded projects can be found at www.chemnitz.de/demokratiefoerderung.
There have been changes to the monitoring committee: new members include ASA FF e. V., ASB Chemnitz und Umgebung e. V. and AGIUA e. V. The Bürgerverein FUER Chemnitz e. V., Inpeos e. V. and RAA Sachsen e. V. have stepped down.
