Work to repair the running track in Bürgerpark Gablenz will begin next Monday. The 400-metre track, which is heavily overgrown with weeds, will be renewed over a continuous width of at least two metres.
The weeds will be removed from the running track surface, which will then be milled through and a new surface layer applied. The construction costs amount to around 25,000 euros. Completion is scheduled for April.
The running track surface cannot be used during the construction work or for approximately three weeks after completion. The new path surface must settle during this time and must not be walked on. Please use the paths outside the upper level of the green area.
The work will be carried out by the company Der Wegebauer Lutter GmbH from Pollhagen.

Bürgerpark Gablenz is one of the intervention areas of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025. The city of Chemnitz has transformed the wasteland where the Kepler Grammar School stood until 2011 into a lively citizens' park. Citizens contributed their ideas for the design and features.
The park is characterised by diverse planting with trees and shrubs that are compatible with climate change. Sports and leisure facilities such as a streetball court with a connection to the tram stop, two table tennis tables as well as seating and fitness facilities appeal to all generations. A paved access road also enables events to be held in the area. The aim remains to continuously develop the Bürgerpark.
