At 11.00 am today, as part of the National Warning Day, a test alert was also issued to the public in Chemnitz. To this end, a test alert was triggered centrally via the National Warning Centre in Bonn using cell broadcast technology and the Modular Warning System (MoWaS). At the same time, the sirens were activated by the relevant integrated regional control centres.
An initial assessment showed that, of the 47 voice and motor sirens in the Chemnitz urban area, 42 automatically reported back that they had sounded without any issues. No confirmation was received from the voice siren at Einsiedel Grammar School; the cause is currently being investigated. Four of the sirens are motor sirens, which do not generally provide automatic confirmation to the control centre.
Within the area covered by the Chemnitz Integrated Regional Control Centre (IRLS), all voice and motorised sirens were triggered as scheduled at 11.00 am. The IRLS received a total of nine calls/emergency calls from concerned members of the public, three of which were presumably due to the emergency button being pressed by mistake in connection with the warning displayed on smartphones.
The all-clear at 11.45 am was issued as planned using all voice and motor sirens within the IRLS Chemnitz area. No further calls were received from concerned members of the public in this regard.
