Record figures in the Capital of Culture year

The tourism region Chemnitz. Zwickau. Region. recorded an increase of 9.5 per cent in overnight stays in 2025, significantly outperforming Saxony as a tourist destination (-1.5 per cent). With 609,234 overnight stays, the city of Chemnitz recorded an increase of 24.2 per cent, which is around 120,000 more than in 2024.

Demand for city tours also increased significantly: 1,544 tours with 36,599 guests are three times as many as in the previous year. There was also a positive trend in arrivals in Hohenstein-Ernstthal (+5.9 per cent), Meerane (+4.8 per cent) and Zwickau (+3.9 per cent).

The Purple Path art and sculpture trail will remain the largest project of the Capital of Culture in the long term and will be marketed to tourists. An international festival, "Theatre of the World", will also take place. Art collections, exhibitions and numerous events in Chemnitz and Zwickau round off the programme. The UnseenBiennale will follow every two years from 2027.
