Joint concert

On Saturday 14 November at 5 pm, the Youth Symphony Orchestra of the Municipal Music School and the Chemnitz Singakademie invite you to a joint concert at St Mark’s Church, Theodor-Körner-Platz. The choir and symphony orchestra will combine classical choral music, symphonic works and well-known melodies from film and popular music.

When the Singakademie Chemnitz and the Youth Symphony Orchestra of the Chemnitz Municipal Music School take to the stage together, musical experience meets the youthful enthusiasm of the young musicians. The programme brings together different musical worlds. Festive choral music and classical works meet familiar melodies from film and popular music. The focus is on powerful emotions and themes that unite people: peace and freedom, community and justice.

The Singakademie Chemnitz’s programme includes, amongst other pieces, Karl Jenkins’ ‘Adiemus / Elegia’, the Prisoners’ Chorus from Giuseppe Verdi’s opera *Nabucco*, George Frideric Handel’s ‘Hallelujah’ and ‘Chanson de Roses’ by Morten Lauridsen. Andreas Pabst’s ‘Friedenslied’ and the song ‘Einmal’ from the musical *The Hunchback of Notre Dame* add further facets to the choir’s repertoire.

The Youth Symphony Orchestra of the Chemnitz Municipal Music School rounds off the programme with Jean Sibelius’s ‘Karelia Suite’ and the Intermezzo from Pietro Mascagni’s ‘Cavalleria rusticana’. A special highlight is the second movement, ‘Andante ma non troppo’, from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Flute Concerto in G major, featuring Cedric Pflanzer as soloist.

The musical direction will be shared between Andreas Pabst, musical director of the Singakademie Chemnitz, and Andreas Winkler, conductor of the Youth Symphony Orchestra. For the young musicians of the Municipal Music School, collaborating with a large concert choir is a special opportunity to grow musically beyond their own ensemble and become part of a large, unified ensemble. The Singakademie, too, gains new inspiration and a special dynamism from this collaboration.
