Focus on semiconductors: First Taiwan Business Day in Chemnitz

On Thursday, 18 June, the city of Chemnitz will host the Taiwan Business Day for the first time in order to further expand and intensify international economic relations with Taiwan in the future-oriented field of microelectronics.

A Taiwanese business delegation is expected in Chemnitz following the Silicon Saxony Days in Dresden. The aim is to initiate new collaborations, explore investment potential and actively position Chemnitz as a technology location in the international competition for future technologies, investments and skilled labour.

<p>In the morning, the Taiwanese company delegation will visit the Fraunhofer Institute for Electronic Nano Systems ENAS and its Test and Reliability Centre. The focus will be on insights into current research and development activities in the region.</p

<h3>Symposium with specialist presentations and impulses
 

From 3 p.m. (admission 2.30 p.m.) to 6 p.m., Lord Mayor Sven Schulze and the international guests are inviting representatives from companies, research facilities, institutions and interested parties who would like to find out about economic developments in Taiwan and make international contacts to a public symposium. Among the guests will be the representative of the Taipei Representative Office in the Federal Republic of Germany, Dr Klement Ruey-sheng Gu, and Michael Chung, Director of the Economic Division of the Taipei Representative Office.

<p>The symposium will be held in English in the Green Parlour of Chemnitz City Hall, Markt 1. Registration is possible until 14 June via the participation portal of the City of Chemnitz: 1st Taiwan Business Day Chemnitz.

<p>The programme, organised under the leadership of the City of Chemnitz's Business Division, includes specialist presentations and impulses on economic relations between Taiwan and Germany, investment opportunities, semiconductor technologies, the development of skilled workers and successful relocation and cooperation projects. Representatives from business, science and administration from both countries will discuss current developments and prospects for future cooperation.</p

<p>Dr Eva Langerbeck, Chief Representative and Managing Director of the German Business Office in Taipei, will provide an insight into economic relations between Taiwan and Germany. Timmy Huang, Managing Director of Gigabyte Technology, will report on the investment experiences of Taiwanese companies in Germany. Uwe Wagner, Managing Director of 3D-Micromac, and Robert Rückriem, Managing Director of scia Systems GmbH, will be taking part in the programme from Chemnitz.

<p>Afterwards, a networking format will provide an opportunity for direct dialogue with the City of Chemnitz's business division, the Taiwanese and other guests to initiate new partnerships.

Background

Taiwan is one of the most important players in the semiconductor industry worldwide. With rising global demand for microchips and the expansion of European technology capacities, cooperation between German and Taiwanese companies is becoming increasingly important.

<p>The active approach of Taiwanese companies and the first-time participation of the City of Chemnitz's business division in the world's leading trade fair SEMICON Taiwan in 2025 have already laid important foundations for deepening relations.

The Taiwan Business Day now represents the next step in expanding these contacts in the long term, as the microelectronics industry is of strategic importance for the economic and location development of Chemnitz.
