Extension officially opened
The new extension is a two-storey building constructed on piles, which will expand the school to include eight classrooms and four group rooms, as well as stairwells and toilet facilities, including an accessible toilet.
The entrance in the courtyard is equipped with a lift, meaning that all floors of the new building and the existing
building can be accessed without barriers. The new extension forms part of comprehensive construction works to upgrade the school site on Brauhausstraße for the Chemnitz Cooperative School, after it became financially unfeasible to build a new school building for it at the Planitzwiese site. In addition to the new extension and the modernisation of the
old building—including the outdoor areas—the third phase will involve the renovation of the outdoor areas in accordance with heritage conservation guidelines. The
total costs amount to approximately 10.6 million euros. The Sächsische Aufbaubank has approved funding of 5.3 million euros.
