It is accessible to wheelchair users and cyclists and runs from Altchemnitz to Falkeplatz. At six stops along the route, walkers can explore Chemnitz’s musical history and the highlights of the City of Culture year. The trail was created, amongst other things, with funding from the Chemnitz 2025 Open Call ‘Cross-border cooperation with partners in the Czech Republic, Poland and Germany’. At some of these stops, musicians and dancers from the Czech Republic, Poland, the UK and the Chemnitz cultural region share their musical stories.

Starting at the Altchemnitz bus stop, at the first stop by the old river lido, you’ll learn about the Chemnitz composers Kirchner, Neefe and Dulichius. In August 2025, the University of Manchester Chamber Choir performed a piece by Dulichius. At the other stops, those interested can learn, for example, about music in Chemnitz’s schools, the concertina and the bandoneon, or children’s musicals.

All texts are read aloud at the touch of a button in simple language, in German or English. Since their completion in August, the audio boxes have already been played more than 1,200 times.
