On Monday, 2 March, extensive civil engineering work will begin on Lützowstraße. The public transport facilities and underground infrastructure between Deulichstraße and Horststraße will be renewed. The construction work will begin at the Lützowstraße/ Deulichstraße junction and then continue to Horststraße. The construction work should be completed by October 2026.
The measure is a coordinated project between the City of Chemnitz's waste disposal company (ESC), utility company eins and the City of Chemnitz's traffic and civil engineering department.
The ESC is renovating the damaged combined sewer between the inspection chambers at the Lützowstraße/Deulichstraße and Lützowstraße/Horststraße junctions. In the course of this work, all house connection pipes and connection pipes for the road drainage system will be renewed. In addition to the sewer construction work, the supplier is also renewing the drinking water network. Around 150 metres of the old pipe between the residential streets will be replaced with a new cast iron pipe with a nominal diameter of DN400.
Once the pipework has been laid, the carriageway will be thoroughly repaired on behalf of the traffic and civil engineering department. In addition to the planned renewal of the dilapidated road drainage system, the "Horststraße" bus stop will be made barrier-free. To this end, the existing kerbs will be replaced with city kerbs, tactile elements will be installed and the bus stop area will be extended to accommodate special loads. In the remaining sections, the kerbs will be retained.
At the Lützowstraße/Deulichstraße junction, pavement projections will be created to protect pedestrians. The existing parking situation will not be changed.
The work will be carried out under full road closure. Traffic will be diverted via Neefestraße, Carl-Hamel-Straße and Stollberger Straße. Pedestrians will be guided safely past the construction site via the existing footpaths.
Residents will be informed in writing about waste disposal, recycling containers, access roads and parking spaces by the construction company in good time.
The total cost of the construction project is around 900,000 euros, of which around 260,000 euros are required for road construction. 640,000 euros will be borne by the media carriers ESC and Versorger eins.
The Chemnitz-based construction company Dietmar Mothes GmbH was commissioned with the construction work.
