On Monday, 9 March, extensive civil engineering work will begin in Dürerstraße. The public transport facilities and underground infrastructure between Cranachstrasse and Rudolfstrasse will be renewed. Dürerstraße will be fully closed in this section. The construction work, which is being implemented as a coordinated project by utility company eins energie in sachsen and the City of Chemnitz's transport and civil engineering department, is expected to be completed by mid-October 2026.
As the drinking water network is prone to accidents, eins energie in sachsen is planning to replace the existing pipes on Dürerstraße as far as Jahnstraße. This will involve laying around 315 metres of new pipes. All of the house connection pipes will have to be reconnected and in some cases rerouted. In principle, the supply of drinking water is guaranteed during the work. However, short-term supply bottlenecks are unavoidable. The residents affected will be informed in good time.
In addition to laying the drinking water pipeline, another section of the Luther neighbourhood will be connected to district heating. The extension is planned from Cranachstraße to Dürerstraße house number 24. Once the pipework has been laid, the asphalt surface between the existing kerbs will be renewed across the entire width of the carriageway on behalf of the traffic and civil engineering department.
The work will be carried out under full road closure. Residents will have temporary access from Rudolfstraße to Lutherstraße during this time. Pedestrians will be guided safely past the individual construction sections via the existing pavements. Residents will be informed in writing about waste disposal, recycling containers, access roads and parking spaces by the company carrying out the construction work.
The total costs of the construction project amount to around 500,000 euros, of which around 290,000 euros are required for road construction. 210,000 euros will be borne by the utility company eins. The Chemnitz-based company Gunter Hüttner was commissioned with the construction work.
