Car park fee can be paid contactless
The first parking ticket machines in the city centre are currently being converted so that parking fees can be paid contactlessly by card in future. At the same time, cash payments will no longer be possible at these machines.</p

The machines are operated intuitively via the touch screen, which is activated by tapping on it. The desired parking duration is then selected and the machine automatically calculates the corresponding parking fee. After confirming the selection, the payment process starts on the card reader below the touch screen. All standard cards with contactless function, such as Giro, VISA and Master cards, are accepted. It is also possible to use smartphones or smartwatches with an installed mobile payment system such as Google Pay or Apple Pay. The parking ticket is printed out by the machine as usual and must be clearly visible from the outside of the vehicle.</p

The conversion will take place at selected high-demand locations in the city centre. In their vicinity, there will still be parking ticket machines where you can pay with cash. The cashless machines will be blue in colour - in contrast to the familiar grey parking ticket machines that accept cash. This means that these machines can be recognised from afar.
Independent of the payment options at the parking ticket machines, so-called mobile phone parking, i.e. payment via the smartphone apps EasyPark, Parkster and mobilet, will remain unchanged. The parking fees themselves will not be changed either.</p

The city of Chemnitz has decided to take this step in order to meet the ever-increasing demand for digital payment options. The convenience for users will be significantly increased as there will be no need to search for small change and the parking ticket can be paid for conveniently by card. The city of Chemnitz also expects less susceptibility to faults and less vandalism as well as lower maintenance costs due to the elimination of cash at these machines.
