You can register for ‘Buchsommer’ free of charge at your local library; parental consent is not required.
Exclusively for 11- to 16-year-olds, hundreds of titles from the latest children’s and young adult literature are available to read: thrilling thrillers, mystery and fantasy novels, as well as cutting-edge stories about love and life.
Anyone who reads three books during the summer holidays will receive an invitation to the ‘Buchsommer’ closing party at Weltecho, as well as a certificate confirming their successful participation.
You can also take part in the ‘Pop-up Buchsommer’ events at the Einsiedel District Library (on 7 and 21 July and 4 August) and the Wittgensdorf District Library (on 17 and 31 July and 14 August).
Summer Reading Fun in a Reading Rucksack
On Wednesday 1 July, the ‘Summer Reading Fun’ programme will also begin for all primary school children aged 6 to 10. Reading rucksacks containing the latest summer reading material and a little surprise will then be available at the Central Library in the TIETZ, as well as at the district libraries in the Vita-Center, the Yorck-Center, Einsiedel and Wittgensdorf. These can be borrowed using a standard library card, which is free for children and young people up to their 18th birthday.
‘Buchsommer Sachsen’ is a reading promotion initiative for young people organised by public libraries in Saxony and the Saxony Regional Association of the German Library Association (Deutscher Bibliotheksverband e. V.), in cooperation with the State Ministry for Science, Culture and Tourism (SMWK) and the Friends of Chemnitz City Library. This initiative is co-funded by tax revenue in accordance with the budget approved by the Saxon State Parliament.
